Gimme Gimme Chocolat!
Nothing can cure homesickness better than binging on chocolates while watching Chocolat!
Like a chocolate gypsy following the north wind (or whatever winds blow here in Sydney), I've come here to find myself, a career, new lasting friendships, a new home and maybe my own Johnny Depp. haha. The last bit would be sweeeeeeeet!
I wonder if he'll be some mysterious man I will meet some enchanted evening (you might meet a stranger...) or if his sails will catch the south wind and bring him back to me :P
Chick Flicks... Gotta love it.
So we're moving out soon. To Pyrmont... we're literally crawling distance from Brightly and the city. We've bought all our furniture. We just have to assemble it when they deliver it there... my what an interesting blog entry that would make.
Today, I was feeling extremely helpful and useful. I did laundry (my sister was supervising) and hanged all the clothes, helped cook (which basically meant I was being a hungry pest in the kitchen), I finished what I was composing for a painting in my new room, I tried to tidy up all my clothes to pack (well not really)... but all those de-bratting points went down the drain when I boiled two eggs and forgot about them and I ended up BURNING them!
Yes, you can actually burn eggs and water! I was chatting or playing with my laptop when my sister screamed Chabs your eggs! I ran out, the small pot had a bit of smoke coming out because all the water had evaporated... I ran it under cold water and stinky steam rose up from it. I can't recall what my uncle said.. whether it was hopeless or unbelievable, either way you can just imagine what a scene it was.
One egg exploded. And the shell was burnt and the insides too. I managed to salvage the second one and it looked like a monster egg. And I had to scrub the pot. I don't think I managegd to get all the stuck burnt pieces out though. Anyway, I ate it for lunch and I'm still alive and it didn't taste weird.
I messaged my brother and all he could say was "That's so you!" and he told my sister, that's actually the first time I've seen the sentence "I burned boiled eggs and one egg exploded." My tita said... oh no Chabs what are we going to do with you?
As a disclaimer though... I swear I can cook.
Waaaah I wanna go home.
THE COMMON WORLD
I was chatting with Ala (a classmate in Ateneo who just moved here recently) and we were talking about the different kinds of people we don't like. I obviously haven't met a lot as she has given that she's been here longer and that her whole family is here. Anyway, we came across the people who say "welcome to the real world." And when you really think about it (save for the few people who really mean well), it is quite insulting and condescending. Just because we haven't had the chance to do chores, commute all the time, pump gas and all the other things that people from other countries have had to do, it doesn't mean that the life we lived back home wasn't as real or as meaningful or as useful. Our lives may have been very different but it's not in any way LESS real. You can't measure reality and you certainly shouldn't judge girls like us too quickly. We may appear spoiled but we're not brats. And we're willing to learn, work it and get down and dirty. We're damn homesick too.
I really don't get why some people have to put others down just to make themselves look better or so that they'd feel better about themselves.
Anyway, if you define reality as a life that majority of the world population has lived... Don't you think it should be called the COMMON world and not the REAL world? Reality is relative.
To quote John Mayer and Ani DiFranco: "I just found out there's no such thing as the real world Just a lie you've got to rise above" "I'm not trying to give my life meaning by demeaning you"
MY GRATITUDE LIST FOR THE WEEK
When I feel down, I start a gratitude list to remind me what a blessed and charmed life I live and once I begin writing I can't seem to stop :D
1) My best friend Karisma's (K) birthday-- If she wasn't born, I wouldn't be who I am now. She's been with me since we were 12, my little angel, always reminding me of what is essential, of things that will pass, of God's love, of everything that is good. I love you hun. Your dreams will come true, you'll see!
2) Mich's boyfriend healing well and for Mich's safety.
3) Uncle Angkot and Tita Nidia, our second parents in Sydney!
4) Our new home! and new furniture and my new bed *mine*, having a pool and gym at our building, being close to Brights
5) My Taronga Zoo trip! (thanks Carlo) and new friends
6) My besties and mom, papa and kuya missing me and Vic texting me he misses me ... I feel so loved *sniff*
7) Seeing a rainbow on the way home from the city
8) Inspiration to paint again... (follow through please chabs!)
9) The electric blanket that keeps me warm at night. It's like being hugged by someone you super love.
10) Good health, being able to express myself, Eric's approved visa, chocolate ice cream, lactose-free milk, Yahoo Messenger, crazy conversations, cellphones... the list goes on and on and on....
Yay I'm in a better mood now :D

The world can't be any more real than what one experiences every single day of his or her life. It doesn't matter if you've had more experiences of good or bad. It's the fact that you're living life as it's given to you--appreciating it and putting to heart all the lessons it has to offer--that's what makes everything real.
Thanks for the prayers and the strength hun. This real/common/evil world is getting harder and harder to live in everyday, but it's people like you who help make it a tad bit better and brighter. :)
Good luck on moving!
